Originally titled Office 365, Microsoft 365 is a line of desktop office applications and cloud-based tools offered by Microsoft. The 365 denotes a subscription service where users pay either a monthly or yearly service fee to use the latest version of the applications. As Microsoft offers various subscription plans, which applications and cloud-based software-as-a-service products you install on your computer are dependent on the type of subscription plan you purchase. However, the main applications available within the Microsoft 365 suite are Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
As a part of the subscription option, Microsoft 365 software is available with automatic updates. Consequently, you will always have the most up-to-date version of the software. This business model contrasts with the activation-based models where users do a one-time purchase and thus need to purchase new licenses whenever a new software version is introduced.
